Youhanna S. Al-Tawil, MD

As the Medical Director of GI for Kids, PLLC, I am committed to the belief that all children should have access to excellent healthcare, including all pediatric sub-specialties. Our clinic has an open-door policy and we try to accommodate all patients in a timely manner. Prevention is an important focus of the practice. Treating children with gastroenterology diseases and specialized nutritional needs is our top priority, while prevention is the motivation for our comprehensive staff serving these patients.

I became interested in making a difference in children’s health when, at 12 years of age, I experienced a severe illness. Throughout my career, I have served as Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of Kentucky and then as Acting Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Tulane University. My wife, Dr. Salwa Alkhoury, is a primary care pediatrician at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. We have two children, Mark and Laura. I love spending time with my family and gardening, and I feel blessed to live in this area.

The mission of GI for Kids is to be the Center of Excellence for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition on a local, regional and national level. I am committed to serving the children and families at multiple convenient locations by providing compassionate and competent care while offering state of the art in office testing.

Dr. Altawil is a blessing to my family. My son has been very sick and we haven’t gotten answers or help until we visited him. He takes his time, speaks respectfully, and truly cares about the kids. Thank you Dr. Altawil!

My wife and I were very pleased at the way you talked directly to my son and not around him. It made him feel a lot more comfortable about what was going on.

Dr. Al-Tawil goes above and beyond for my child as always. Even with the news we received being devastating to my son, the staff was so nice and caring to cheer him up. Thank you for all that you guys do. We will be there a lot for a while. I hope all of our visits will be as great as this one was.

My child was very sick and we had been to several doctors without any diagnosis or symptom resolution. Dr. Al-Tawil was very thorough, patient and compassionate and really listened to what was going on. He took the time to explain the diagnosis which helped alleviate the concern and anxiety our family had been feeling. I am so thankful and have such trust in him. I greatly appreciate the kindness and support of his entire office staff.

Dr. Altawil is the best doctor I could have ever chosen for my daughter. He and his staff treat my family better than any other doctor we have seen before. Unlike most kids, my daughter actually gets excited whenever she hears we are going to the doctor! Thank you Dr. Altawil for being a blessing to my family and daughter’s health. God Bless you.

One of the best GI docs I have ever went to. I would recommend him to anyone who has a GI or stomach issue.

Dr Al Tawil took time to explain what was going on with our son’s condition and stayed with us until we were comfortable with the plan of care. I would not hesitate in suggesting him to any family or friends in need of GI pediatric care. Yes, you may wait a little longer sometimes, but keep in mind he’s taking the time necessary with each child and family before you and he will do the same for your child.
