💉 Injections Instructions for Wegovy and Zepbound

Weekly Subcutaneous Injection Guide

Wegovy and Zepbound are prescription medicines used for chronic weight management. They are given as a once-weekly injection under the skin (subcutaneous). Follow these steps to use Wegovy and Zepbound safely and effectively.

✅ BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Step Details
📅 Frequency Inject once weekly on the same day each week (e.g., every Monday).
📍 Injection Sites Stomach (abdomen), upper thigh, or upper arm. Rotate sites each week.
🌡️ Storage Keep in refrigerator (36°F to 46°F / 2°C to 8°C). Can be kept at room temp (up to 86°F/30°C) for up to 28 days.
⏱️ Let it warm up If refrigerated, let pen sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before injecting.

💼 SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED

  • Wegovy single-use pen (correct dose)
  • Alcohol swab
  • Sharps disposal container

🧼 STEP-BY-STEP INJECTION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Wash Your Hands

Use soap and water before handling the pen.

2. Check the Pen

  • Confirm the correct dose and expiration date.
  • Ensure the medication is clear and colorless (not cloudy or discolored).
  • Do not shake the pen.

3. Choose Injection Site

  • Preferred areas:
    ▪ Front of the thighs
    ▪ Stomach (at least 2 inches away from the navel)
    ▪ Back of the upper arm (if someone is helping you)
  • Rotate sites weekly to avoid irritation.

4. Clean the Area

Use an alcohol swab and let the area dry completely.

5. Inject

  • Remove the pen cap.
  • Place the pen against your skin at a 90-degree angle.
  • Press and hold the button until the yellow bar stops moving and you hear two clicks (takes about 5–10 seconds).
  • Do not remove the pen until the full dose is delivered.

6. Dispose of Pen

Place the used pen in a FDA-cleared sharps container.

⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS

  • Never reuse a Wegovy pen—single use only.
  • Do not inject into muscle or vein—only under the skin.
  • Skip your dose if more than 5 days late; take your next dose on the regular day.
  • Do not share your pen with others.

💡 COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Fatigue or headache
  • Injection site redness or swelling

👉 Call your provider if you have severe stomach pain, signs of an allergic reaction, or dehydration.

  • If you accidentally use the wrong dose
