Infusion Center

At GI For Kids, we have a dedicated infusion center for our patients with specialized infusion nurses. We try to make the experience as comfortable as possible with comfortable recliners, adjustable lighting, and internet access with available streaming services.

We can accommodate up to six patients at a time and our infusions are given Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Insurance

Insurance authorizations may take multiple days (or longer) so please notify us immediately of any changes in the patient’s insurance.

Patient Drug Assistance

Most medications have co-pay assistance programs (not income based) for commercial insurance holders. These programs are free to enroll and will reimburse up to $20,000 dollars each year so please ask about enrollment. You can register and learn more at the links below:

Infusion Center Information

Before the infusion
  • Let us know if there are any insurance changes as soon as possible.
    • We will have to obtain a new authorization and we will need ample time to obtain it.
  • Drink lots of fluids for a couple of days before the infusion.
  • We allow one person to stay with the patient during the infusion.
  • Please let us know if the patient is currently ill with fever, respiratory symptoms vomiting, or other concerning symptoms.
During the infusion
  • Upon arrival, the nurse will:
    • Obtain the patient’s weight and vital signs.
    • Obtain a pregnancy test if patient is a female age 12 or older.
    • Premedicate with Tylenol and Benadryl.
    • Start the IV and draw labs as needed.
    • Start infusion
  • Most patients choose to sleep or do a engage in a quiet activities on their phones/tablet/computer, read, or work on homework.
    • Please bring your preferred electronic devices. We do have a limited number of tablets available if needed. 
    • Please bring headphones as this is a quiet area.
  • It can get chilly in the infusion room so bring a blanket if desired. 
  • You may bring in your own food and drinks.
