I am excited to be a part of the GI for Kids team as a Registered Dietitian. Nutrition is a daily part of everyone’s life and the food we put in our bodies has a large impact on our overall health. Obesity is a growing problem in the United States that affects many children. Without treatment this can lead to health problems later in life such as diabetes and liver disease. I strive to work with children and their families to develop healthy lifestyles with diet and exercise. GI for Kids is building a Center of Excellence that will include a full teaching kitchen providing nutrition services locally and nationally. Sometimes children require specialized diets due to food allergies, disease, or sensory issues. I am passionate about helping patients and their families work through these challenges while finding the best way to meet the child’s nutritional needs. My experience as a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician allows me to deal with simple issues such as constipation and gastric reflux and more complex nutrition issues including failure to thrive and tube feeding. I enjoy seeing patients reach milestones and look forward to helping our patients meet their goals.
I graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Food and Nutrition where I also completed the Coordinated Program for Dietetics. However, as a Knoxville native and forever Vol fan, I moved back home where my husband, Alex, and I enjoy spending our free time on the lake or cooking at home.
