GI for Kids is now offering vitamin D supplements in liquid or capsule form for all ages. Our Vitamin D supplements include Vitamin K to aid with absorption. They are manufactured by a reputable company that does independent studies on all supplements to ensure they are gluten free and free of dyes or other additives. This also ensures ingredients and dosage are as listed.

Vitamin D supplementation is recommended for all infants ages 0-12 months. Infant formulas are fortified with vitamin D but breastfed infants benefit from additional supplementation. Vitamin D supplementation should possibly con tinue after age 1 due to difficulty meeting the recommended intake even with a varied diet.

Natural food sources of vitamin D include salmon, eggs, canned tuna, and mushrooms. Other foods such as cow’s milk and cereals are often fortified with vitamin D as well. Picky eaters or those with food allergies may find it especially difficult to get adequate vitamin D from the diet.

Older children and teenagers may continue to benefit from vitamin D supplementation. Vitamin D deficiency is common, especially in

patients with GI concerns such as celiac disease, IBD and IBS. Low levels of vitamin D can lead to decreased bone d

ensity causing osteoporosis later in life. Studies show Vitamin D supplementation may also help improve adverse symptoms of IBS.
