I am very excited to be joining GI for Kids, PLLC I have been practicing psychology for the past 10 years in the Knoxville area. As the second oldest of 5 children, I have been around children all of my life. Even when I didn't have to, I sought out opportunities to work with children as a lifeguard and swim instructor in high school and as a camp counselor in college. It was only natural that when I decided to focus on studying psychology in college that my research and future practice involve children.

The relationship between parents and their children is of particular interest to me. As parents we are our children's most important teachers and role models. When children struggle with stress, illness and sadness, they look to their parents for guidance and support. I frequently utilize this relationship in my work with children and teens. I find that when families work together outcomes are significantly improved.

Chronic illness presents a stressor with which a whole family must cope. Drawing on a child's strengths and those of their family is the approach I find most effective when addressing this type of problem. Often times it is very difficult to be optimistic in light of difficult situations. It is my job to walk people through these times, and provide them with strategies for managing distress. This process frequently results in children and families finding that events in their lives are more manageable that they originally thought.

I look forward to the opportunity to provide this service to the children and families of GI for Kids, PLLC!
