Kristalose (Lactulose)

Description

Kristalose is prescribed for constipation relief, usually within 24-48 hours.

How should it be used?

This medication is available in single dose packets (10g) that should be dissolved in 4 ounces of water.

Special Precautions/Instructions

Before beginning to take this product or any other medication or supplement, you should check with your doctor first. Tell your doctor about all of the medications (including over the counter), vitamins, herbal products, and supplements that you take before beginning this medication. It is also important to visit your doctor periodically to monitor your condition.

Side Effects

Initial dosing may produce flatulence and intestinal cramps. Excessive dosage can lead to diarrhea with potential complications such as loss of fluids, hypokalemia, and hypernatremia. Nausea and vomiting have been reported.

Storage Conditions

This medication should be stored at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children.

Emergency/Overdose

Call the national poison control center 1-800-222-1222 or 911 in the event of overdose. Symptoms of an overdose include vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, fever, chills, and other signs of infection.

Pediatric Use

The safety and efficacy of this drug in pediatric patients have not been established.
